Roger S

Roger's journey into scuba diving began with the Huntsville-Madison County Rescue Squad Inc., where he served as a search and recovery diver from 1996 to 2001 before joining the US Army. In 2015, he embarked on his PADI Open Water scuba diver certification with Patriot Scuba. Discovering the profound healing effects of diving on his mental and personal well-being, Roger was inspired to share this therapeutic experience with fellow veterans.

Motivated by the mission of Patriots for Disabled Divers, Patriot Scuba's non-profit, Roger committed himself to becoming a PADI Professional to work with wounded veterans. His professional journey commenced in 2017 when he achieved the rank of PADI Dive Master. Since then, he has ascended through the ranks, reaching the esteemed status of Master Instructor. With his aspirations to become a Course Director and open his dive center, Roger aimed to mentor and guide future dive professionals, instilling in them his deep love and passion for diving.

Roger actively supports organizations such as Patriots for Disabled Divers and Deep Sea Valkyrie, both non-profits committed to aiding veterans with PTSD and combat traumas. Through his role as an instructor for recipients and dive professionals, Roger seeks to strengthen the brotherhood shared by service members and address the challenges faced by veterans coping with PTSD.

In May, Roger undertook a transformative journey to Punta Cana, where he attained the coveted title of PADI Course Director. As a Course Director and shop owner in the Greater DC Metro area, Roger envisions the opportunity to introduce more individuals to the diving community. Collaborating with mental health providers, he plans to utilize the PADI open water diver course as a therapeutic tool for healing active duty and military veterans grappling with PTSD and other mental health issues. Roger aims to make a positive impact on the lives of all involved, leveraging his position to certify beneficiaries from these indispensable initiatives.
