So you are a Divemaster But not yet ready to become a full PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor, no worries, we got you covered.
At Patriot Diving you can continue your professional instructor certification by becoming a PADI Assistant Instructor, where you will gain valuable experience assisting in the teaching, mentoring, and development of other divers in honing their diving skills. You can become a PADI certified assistant and assume limited teaching responisbilities, it is a great first step towards attaing your PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor certification.
The PADI Assistant Instructor course is the first portion of the PADI Instructor Development Corse (IDC) and when followed by the Open Water Scuba Instructor course (OWSI) and successful completion of the PADI Instructor Examination (IE), can lead to a fulfilling career as a PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor.

The Fun Part
We have two of the best PADI Course Directors in the area, and a dedicated team of PADI Master Instructors, IDC Staff Instructors, Master Scuba Diver Trainers and Open Water Instructors who are more than willing to provide excellent mentoring to assit you in learning to teach via the PADI Instruction method. You will also have fun gaining valuable hands-on experience teaching students.

What You Learn
You build upon your Divemaster abilities to organise and supervise scuba diving activities, while concentrating on developing teaching skills.
You learn through:
- Knowledge Development: Dive theory, PADI standards, risk management, and professional responsibility.
- Teaching Techniques: Learn how to conduct confined and open water sessions.
- Confined Water & Open Water Skills: Practice your demonstration quality skills and fine-tune them with video analysis.
- Rescue Exercises: Master the demonstration of Rescue Diver skills with confidence.
- PADI Systems: Become proficient with PADI’s educational materials, online systems, and tools.

What You Can Teach
In addition to the responsibilities and duties you already have as a PADI Divemaster, as a PADI Assistant Instructor you can:
- Teach academic presentations under the indirect supervision of a PADI Instructor
- During confined water dives, present initial skills training under the direct supervision of a PADI Instructor
- Evaluate Open Water Diver surface skills under the indirect supervision of a PADI Instructor
- Teach and certify PADI Peak Performance Buoyancy Specialty under the direction of a PADI Instructor
- Teach PADI AWARE Specialty courses
- Conduct PADI Discover Scuba Diving experiences in a pool or confined water
- Conduct PADI Seal Team AquaMissions
- Teach PADI Digital Underwater Photographer specialty under the direction of a PADI Instructor after earning the PADI Digital Underwater Photographer Specialty Instructor rating
Prerequisites
You must
- Be a PADI Divemaster (or hold a qualifying certification from another organization)
- Be at least 18 years old
- Have 60 verifiable logged dives, including night, deep, and navigation dives
- Have been a certified diver for at least 6 months
- Have CPR and First Aid Training within the last 24 months
- Be fit for diving and submit a Medical Statement (PDF) signed by a physician within the last 12 months
